O município de Sobral na zona Norte do Estado está entre os municípios que mais cresceram nos últimos anos. Com uma população estimada em 180.o46, se comparado com o indice populacional de 2000 que era de 148.346 habitantes o avanço do município foi de 21,36%, superando cidades como Fortaleza (15,62%) e Crato (15,66). Horiznte na região metropolitana foi o município cearense que mais aumentou seu número de habitantes o indíce ficou em 84,09. Horizonte tem hoje 52.488 habitantes.
